Ralph “Bill” Cummins, 78, formerly of Independence, MO passed away August 11, 2008 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cameron, MO. A visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 14, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, at Floral Hills Cemetery, Kansas City, MO. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Bill was born December 2, 1929, to Ralph W. “Rosie” and Hazel Cummins. He graduated from Marshall High School, Marshall, MO and enlisted in the Air Force on January 13, 1948. He served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged on January 12, 1952. Bill worked for the Burlington Railroad as a switchman and then with Armco Steel in transportation until his retirement in January of 1993. Bill supported Scouting for many years. He was involved in Troop 286 in Odessa and in Troop 492 in Independence, as well as being a member of the Tribe of Mic-o-Say. Bill married OmaLee Jackson on May 16, 1954, and to this union 5 children were born: Michelle, William Michael, Stephen Mark, Mitchell Lee and Stanley Matthew. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and one grandson. Survivors include one daughter, Michelle and Jerry Wilson of Altamont, MO; four sons, Mike of Deep Water, MO, Steve and Renee of Odessa, MO, Mitch and Terri of Roatan, Honduras and Matt and Mary of Independence, MO; nine grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.
