Christina Currier Bock

Christina M. (Swartz) Currier Bock, 85, of Lee’s Summit, MO peacefully passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at her home after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 14, 2011 at Carson Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. Visitation will be 2-4:00 p.m. Sunday, November 13, 2011 in the chapel. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice, 12000 Wornall Rd., Kansas City, MO 64145. Christina was born July 21, 1926 in Croweburg, KS to Charles Harrison and Sarah Jane Margaret (Harris) Swartz. She is the last survivor of seven brothers and two sisters. Mrs. Bock grew up on a farm near Croweburg. Her father was a miner who also supported his family by farming. Christina married Gordon Currier in 1946 and had two sons, Gordon L. Currier, Jr., and Joseph G. Currier. They resided in Kansas City and later Independence, MO. Her oldest son Gordon was killed in Vietnam on January 31, 1968, making her a Goldstar Mother. She was divorced in 1967. Christina married Joseph Bock in April 1968. Mrs. Bock retired from the IRS in 1991. She was past President to the Ladies Auxiliary, VFW Post 1000, past 5th District President, past State President of Missouri, and held many National offices in the Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW. Christina was well known for and often commended for her conductress work. She enjoyed traveling nationally for the VFW recruiting members, setting up auxiliaries, and helping support the National Children’s home. Mrs. Bock never said no when called upon to be the chairman for various positions local, state and national. She volunteered at the local VA hospital as well as various nursing homes in the area. Christina is survived by her husband Joseph Bock; son Joseph Currier and wife Jenny; step-daughter Barbara Bock Barmore and husband Mark; step-son Kenneth Bock; grandchildren Christina Currier Campbell and husband Jeff, Rebecca Currier, Benjamin Currier; step-grandchildren Emily and Allison Barmore; great-grandchildren Nolan and Evan Campbell, Kiernan and Brighton Feisel. The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to Donna Stringham and her family for taking extremely good care of Christina in her time of need over the last two years and to Kansas City Hospice for their professional care with compassion.
