Jerry W. “Butch” Curtis, 72, Independence, MO passed away unexpectedly Oct. 2, 2011. A memorial service will be held at 11 am, Tuesday, Oct. 11 at the Osage Hills Congregation Community of Christ, 27503 E. Blue Mills Rd., Sibley, MO 64088. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Outreach International, 129 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64050.
Jerry was born May 13, 1939 in Lee’s Summit, MO. He served eight years in the U.S. Army as a member of the 82nd Airborne. He was a driver for Consolidated Freightways for twenty-seven years and a member of the Teamsters. He was also a member of the church. Jerry was a real outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. Recently he had taken up the hobby of making silver jewelry for family and friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by brothers Richard Curtis and Bill Curtis. He is survived by his wife of thirty-two years, Rita Curtis, of the home; sons Bryon Charles and wife Nancy, Colton, CA; Bruce Charles, Perryopolis, PA; Kenneth Curtis, Murfreesboro, TN; sister Martha Parrish, Independence, MO; granddaughters Ayanna & Brianna Curtis; and was “Uncle Butch” to many nieces and nephews.
