Gertrude J. “Gertie” Dale, 84, of Independence, MO peacefully passed away Friday, April 04, 2008 at the Villages of Jackson Creek after waging a valiant battle against cancer for many years. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church. Visitation will be prior to mass from 9-10:00 a.m. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in St. Joseph, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Gertrude was born February 4, 1924 in Faucett, MO to Ignacius and Johanna (Witucki) Spiek. She was a faithful member of St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church. Gertie retired from Sears and Roebuck Co. in 1987. She had a passion for flowers and gardening and was known for her independence and strength. Gertie is survived by her children Raymond Dale and wife Paula, Kathy Spears and husband Bob, Victoria Dale and partner Elissa McDade; grandchildren Courtney Dale, Michael and Christopher Spears; sisters Clara Gillespie, Josephine Studer, Patricia Whitley; brother Clarence Spiek; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and special Sears friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond in ’97; and by three sisters and one brother.
