Daniel Marvan Green

September 26, 1934 — May 22, 2026

A Great Man, Daniel Marvan Green, has left on one final road trip adventure, and into the arms of God.

A resident of Sarasota, Florida since 2022, he was a world traveler, with birth roots from a simpler time in rural Independence Missouri. His journey saw the struggles of farm life during the end of the depression era and World War II, through the conquest of Space and beyond. His father and siblings saw his innate abilities develop from making puppet heads at the end of the depression, racing in the soap box derby and attaining Eagle Scout status, to creating a legacy as part of the Space programs from the 1950's-1970's. A leader in the aerospace industry, he continued his career in keeping the country protected by managing programs in ballistic missile defense, maritime warfare and information systems.

His post career life proceeded at a much easier pace, with more world adventures and cross-country train and road trips. From simple trips around an 18 hole golf course to international adventures, all his travels brought new friendships along the way. He loved listening to music and always had aspirations to learn to play the guitar or harmonica. He settled for enjoying an adult beverage with friends or family in front of a live band, whether a nice establishment or his favorite dive bar. Having been a resident of Independence Missouri, Northern and Southern California, St. Louis Missouri and finally Florida, there was always a new adventure to enjoy, and his final trip brings him back home to Independence.

Daniel was born in Independence, MO to Hershel Ray Green and Ida (Hudson) Green in September of 1934 and passed away in the early morning hours of May 22nd, 2026 in the loving hospice care close to his home in Sarasota. His wife of 59 years, Carole Wayne (Gibson ) Green preceded him in death in March of 2013. He is survived by his three sons – Mark Green (and wife Connie) of Missouri, Alan Green (and wife Colleen) of Florida and Kent Green (and wife Wendy) of Missouri – as well as his sister Nancy (Green) Heddon of Kansas City and Sisters-in-law Sharon Gibson and Hope Green, both of Missouri. His grandchildren are Heather Green Jennings (and husband Darren) and Laural Green, daughters of Mark and Connie, and preceded in death by Matthew Green, son of Alan and Colleen. He has two great grandsons, Henry and John Jennings, by Darren and Heather.

Services for him will be held at in Independence, Missouri with private burial to follow. We grieve for him, dealing now with the holes in our lives his departure has made, but we acknowledge his triumph at the same time and rejoice that he was a part of our lives. His was a long life and well lived. The memories of so many vacations and family gatherings Dan continued to set up over the decades stay with us and always bring smiles with them. Truly, he left the world a better place for him having passed through.
