Donald Eugene Datweiler

September 24, 1942 — June 8, 2015

Donald E. Datweiler, 72, of Independence, MO passed away Monday, June 8, 2015. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, June 12th at Maywood Baptist Church; 10505 E Winner Rd, Independence, MO. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 13th at the church. Burial will be at Mt. Washington Cemetery.
Donald was born September 24, 1942 in Clinton, MO as the only child to Robert Eugene and Letha Lorraine (Rush) Datweiler. They relocated to Independence where he graduated from Central High School. Shortly after, he married his high school sweetheart, Linda LaVerne (Adams) on May 19, 1962. Together they had two children. He worked for the Floor Layers Local Union 1179 for over 36 years before retiring. Donald lost his first wife Linda to cancer in April of 1995. He was a hardworking man who was devoted to his family. He enjoyed bowling in tournaments with his son. Other favorite hobbies included cars and rooting for the Chiefs. He remarried to Sylvia on July 11, 2006 and together they enjoyed attending Maywood Baptist Church, bowling and traveling. His family remembers him as heartfelt, strong, but mostly a big ole teddy bear who spoiled his kids and grandchildren. He was inquisitive and always knew the right questions to finish a project, and always told a good, fairly long, but good story. Donald is loved and will be missed.
Survivors include wife, Sylvia Datweiler of the home; son, Danny Joe Datweiler and wife Irene of Independence, MO; daughter, Dixie Hays and husband Doug of Blue Springs, MO; stepsons, David Juergens of Kansas City, MO and Paul Juergens of Tennessee; grandchildren, Breanna Mulkey (formerly Cornelius), Calvin, Kellen, and Molly Hays; great grandchild, Lainee Cornelius; sisters-in-laws, Brenda McConnell and Bonnie Clark and husband Roy; and numerous other family and friends.
