James B. “Jim” Daugherty, 82, of Independence, MO passed away early Friday morning, July 9, 2010 after a full day of life with his wife and friends working on a boat named “The Retired Christian Fishing Buddies”. Living life to the fullest by serving God made every day a great day. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at Trinity Church of the Nazarene, 19800 Truman Road, Independence, MO 64056. Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at the Hume Cemetery in Hume, MO. Jim was born March 16, 1928 in Lowell, OH to Forest Wesley and Zella Amber (Smith) Daugherty. His skills began very early in life at 15 working with his uncle at his service station, then attending Camp Legion, Henry Ford’s camp for boys, where he cooked for Henry Ford himself. Partnership with his brother Tom at T&J Body and Daugherty Motors in Casa Grande, AZ. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955-1959 as a Staff Sergeant E-5 Crew Chief on the B-47. His career included aircraft mechanic and modifications specialist with Lockheed, Tymm Industries, Martin-Marietta, Braniff Int’l, LJV (experimental aircraft) and TWA. Jim was also a Boy Scout Master and State Farm Insurance Agent. Finishing his career as a distinguished member of the Maintenance Department at TJ Lipton where he retired after 17 years. Mr. Daugherty was highly respected for his expertise and personal character. He volunteered for the Ambassador Club and also many other locations with the Jackson County Historical Society. His church family will miss him greatly, as everywhere you look you will see the work that Jim so enjoyed, helping & creating for God while an important part of that ministry. Jim is survived by his wife Sherry (Cutshall) Daugherty; her sons Rick Francis and wife Debbie of Grain Valley, MO, Randy Francis of Independence, MO; his children Dee Dee Bass of Portland, OR, Jennifer Edington and husband Harold of Sugar Creek, MO, Tim Daugherty and wife Tina of Colorado Springs, CO, Leslie Tuttle and husband Frank of Excelsior Springs, MO, Maura Love of Greenfield, MO; grandchildren Chris Scott of Portland, OR, Matt Scott of Tacoma, WA, Airman First Class James Edington and wife Rebekah of Omaha, NE, Abi Schwaller and husband Rob of Independence, MO, Chris Daugherty and wife Mandi of Independence, MO, Sarah Bacavis and husband Chris of Colorado Springs, CO, Sam Daugherty of Colorado Springs, CO, Ivy Love of Greenfield, MO, Grace Love of Joplin, MO, Truman Francis of Cedar Rapids, IA, Jeremy Francis of Billingham, MA; great-grandchildren Zach Scott of Tacoma, WA, Breanna Scott of Portland, OR, Makayla and Hailey Daugherty of Independence, MO. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years Ruth A. (McGrew) Daugherty; and his brother Tom Daugherty.
