Shirley Dauzvardis

November 8, 1929 — October 10, 2012

Shirley M Dauzvardis, 82, of Kansas City, MO, passed away Wednesday October 10, 2012. Memorial service will be 4:00 p.m. Sunday October 14th, 2012 at Stone Church Congregation; 1012 W. Lexington Ave, Independence, MO 64050. Inurnment in Cheyenne, WY at a later time.
Shirley was born November 8th, 1929, in Chicago IL, to Ellsworth and Eunice (Carroll) Walker. Shirley’s was a life well lived. As a child of the depression era, she developed a strong work ethic and a dedication to rising above difficult circumstances. This and service to others were the values she lived and instilled in her children. Education was key; having left high school at age 15, Shirley went on to earn her LPN, RN and finally her master’s in Family Nurse Practitioner. She attended Graceland College, University of Wyoming, and University of Missouri. She was accomplished as an Air Force Nurse, a Nurse in direct practice, and later as a Professor of nursing. Nursing was her passion. Inspired by her beloved grandmother, Effce Case-Carroll, she established a nursing scholarship at Graceland in her grandmother’s name. Shirley was compassionately devoted to the care of the sick believing that “Any job worth doing was worth doing right.” Shirley was a one time resident of cities Columbia, MO, Laramie and Cheyenne, WY. She loved to see the world and her travels included Alaska to the Middle East, and Thailand. As a Christian she has a rich history with the Community of Christ, and was ordained as Priest. She officiated over her son’s wedding. Her family describes her as courageous, resilient, and giving. She worked hard to provide for her children the many things she never had. Shirley’s greatest accomplishment was raising her three beautiful children, born to the love of her life, Fabian Dauzvardis. Nothing brought her greater joy than doting upon and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her Daughter Heather Dauzvardis of Kansas City, MO; son, Jon and his wife Jennifer Dauzvardis of Erie, CO; three grandchildren, Blaise, and Fabian and Georgia Dauzvardis; brother, Lynn and wife Debbie Walker of St. Louis, MO; Sister Carol Reynolds of El Paso, TX. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband and her son, Christopher Dauzvardis. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to The Society for PSP, Executive Plaza III, 11350 McCormick Rd. S-906, Hunt Valley, MD 21031-9942.
