David Joseph Best

August 12, 1973 — December 30, 2025

David Joseph Best, born on August 12, 1973, in Independence, Missouri, left this world far too soon on December 30, 2025, in Overland Park, Kansas. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father, son, brother, and uncle as well as a skilled craftsman.

David graduated from Fort Osage High School and went on to forge an independent life defined by hard work and dedication. He was known for his stubborn and ornery personality, traits that made him one of a kind. A fun-loving spirit, David loved teasing his friends and family, bringing laughter to those fortunate enough to know him. Although he rarely revealed his sensitive side, he possessed a huge heart and an unwavering commitment to providing for his family. The well-being of his loved ones was paramount to him, and he worked tirelessly to ensure they had everything they needed.

David dedicated his career to metal fabrication, where he manufactured furniture with a craftsmanship that was admired by many. Co-workers often (and sometimes reluctantly) turned to him for guidance, as his extensive knowledge of the machinery and techniques made him a respected figure in the workplace. His contributions to the industry were marked by a commitment to quality and a passion for his craft. His craftsmanship and attention to detail went well beyond the workplace. He thoroughly enjoyed creating knives and woodworking and took great pride in his creations. He shared a love for westerns with his daughter, Stephanie, while also tending to his garden and indulging in the joy of tinkering with Legos. Music was another passion of his; the louder, the better. An animal lover at heart, David opened his home to numerous critters throughout his life, adding warmth and liveliness to his family tree.

Above all, David cherished his family. His wife, Rebecca, was not only his partner but a transformative presence in his life. Their union was one of profound love and support, bringing out the best in each other. David took immense pride in his daughter, Stephanie, especially when she chose to adopt his last name, Best. This decision brought him immeasurable joy and melted his heart, reflecting the deep bond they shared. His family, including their beloved fur babies, was truly his entire world.

David's legacy of love and laughter lives on through his best friend and wife, Rebecca Best; their daughter, Stephanie Best; his mother, Linda Elser and husband Jim; his father, Joe Best; his sister, Rene` Davis and husband Brian; his niece, Sierra Darrington; his nephews Xander and Noah Davis, and niece Emma Davis; and his fur babies, Maya, Heidi, Hank the tank, Atilla, and Betty Lou.
