David Eugene Crawford

David Eugene Crawford, beloved husband, veteran, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on June 22, 2026, in Kansas City, Kansas after battling acute myeloid leukemia and pneumonia. He was born on January 30, 1951, in Bakersfield, Missouri, to William McNeil Crawford and Timotia "Mona" (Marez) Crawford.

David was a graduate of Washington High School in Kansas City, Kansas, class of 1969. He carried the lessons and friendships of his youth into adulthood. After high school, David answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Army. From 1971 to 1974, he served as a specialist, demonstrating commitment and honor in every task. Following his military service, David embarked on a steady and dedicated career first working as a supervisor at Bendix, before continuing at Sealright Co., now known as Huhtamaki. He worked diligently as a packager until his retirement in 2016, earning the respect of colleagues and friends over several decades.

Beyond his work and service, David was known to be a loving family man, who stood by his wife, Mary Crawford, and their four children through every joy and challenge. Their life together was a testament to dedication and partnership. He found joy in the simple things. He was known to spend peaceful hours watching hummingbirds—an activity he cherished for its quiet beauty. A true fan of hometown pride, he enjoyed cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals, eagerly following the ups and downs of every season.

Those who knew David best remember him for his rich and endearing personality. He felt things deeply and approached life with kindness and unwavering support for others. His orneriness and sarcasm were often accompanied by a unique goofiness, a combination that invariably brought laughter to any room. His ability to make people laugh, even in the most trying times, will be sorely missed.

David is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Crawford; daughters, Erika Arwine (Roger), Sarah Welcher (Joe), Leslie Crawford, and Cassandra Crawford; grandchildren, Emily Arwine, Kaylee Arwine, Paul Welcher, Taylor Welcher, Cassandra Warburton, and Cameron Crawford; great-grandchildren, Kali Bostic and Malani Bostic; sisters, Patricia Carlton and Linda Antos; and many nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Timotia "Mona" Crawford; and brother, Bill Crawford.
