David Wayne Evans, 65, died peacefully in his Kansas City, Missouri home October 31, 2024 after a 23-year battle with cancer.
He is survived by his mother Phyllis Evans, and wife of 25 years Charlene (Katzer) Evans of Kansas City, Missouri; son, Ryan (Lindsay) Evans and Grandsons Gavin and Bennett Evans of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; brother Grant (Nancy) Evans of Maryville, Missouri, two nieces and one great niece. He is preceded in death by his father, Larry Evans.
David was born on November 19, 1958 in Maryville, Missouri to Larry and Phyllis Evans. He was raised in Independence, Missouri and graduated from Truman High School in 1977. He started work for the Bricklayer’s Union the following year, learning the skills of the masonry trade that eventually allowed him to start his own business, David Evans Construction in 1989. He ran that business successfully, creating stunning rock and brick structures all over the Kansas City area until 2020, when he retired due to illness.
David married Charlene Katzer on May 1, 1999 in Oak Grove, Missouri. During their 25-year marriage, they traveled to Canada, Costa Rica, Alaska and many other locations taking in nature and fishing, and built a home together in the woods where they could enjoy watching the wildlife they both loved from the windows of their home.
His son and Grandsons remember him as a strong, supportive father and grandfather who fostered their love of the outdoors, hunting, fishing and archery, and rarely missed a game, concert or activity in which his Grandsons were involved.
David was an avid archer for most of his life and traveled all over the Midwest with his parents competing in archery competitions during his teen years, eventually winning the 1976 Mid-Western Indoor Sectional National Field Archery Association Championship. He remained passionate about hunting, fishing and the outdoors, spending a significant amount of time in Princeton. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
