David Elbert Lovitch

September 8, 1941 — November 14, 2025

Buckner

David Lovitch, 84, of Buckner, Missouri passed away on 11/14/2025.

David was born on 9/8/1941 and his early years were spent with his parents, Joseph and Julia Lovitch, on a farm in Grain Valley. He was the oldest of four children: sister Patricia (Pat), and brothers Dwain (Snooky) and Dale.

After graduating from Grain Valley High School, he began a lengthy career at Lake City Army and Ammunition Plant where he worked as a driver. In 1971, David met Vickie and they were married the following year. They had two children, Kimberly and Jon, and settled in a home in Buckner where they resided for the next 50 years.

For most of his life, David was a man of simple tastes: slightly burnt bacon and eggs, black coffee, and toast were his morning staples whose aroma filled the house while he watched the news at full volume. He enjoyed meat and potatoes but would eat most anything. He was often quoted as saying, "I'm not sure what this is, but it tastes delicious!"

After retiring from Lake City, David spent many more years working part time at Buckner Surplus. He loved spending his free time outdoors tending to his yard. David and Vickie traveled extensively, visiting Europe, Alaska, and taking multiple cruises. He was a member of First Baptist of Buckner since 2007 and enjoyed attending men's breakfasts and church dinners. In recent years, he relished watching the Chiefs play and driving his truck around town.

David is survived by his wife of 53 years, Vickie; daughter Kimberly Kelley; son Jon Lovitch and wife Judy; grandchildren Cecilia Lovitch, Thomas, Lillian and Jack Kelley; sister Patricia (Pat) Hazen; brothers Dale Lovitch and Dwain (Snooky) Lovitch.

Preceded in death by parents Joseph and Julia Lovitch; grandparents Elbert and Nellie Lovitch; and his beloved dog, Molly, who is on a long walk with him now.
