Robert Richard Davies, 93, of Independence, MO passed away October 5, 2011. A visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 9, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO. Services at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at the Suburban Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday at Rose Hill Cemetery, Lamoni, Iowa. Bob was born April 23, 1918 in Belvedere, Illinois to Ira William and Angeline Rose (Bronson) Davies, and was raised in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho. From 1940-1941, he attended Graceland College, where he met and married the love of his life, June Lewis Davies on February 25, 1942. He served in the United States Navy during the WWII. Bob then returned to Graceland, where he received his AA degree in 1946. He was the first student ever to letter in golf at Graceland. He then went to the University of Iowa, where in 1947 he received his B.S. degree. In 1950, he moved to Denver and completed a physical therapy degree from the University of Colorado. His journey then led him to the University of Denver where he completed a Masters degree in administration. Bob was a very active individual. He played semi-pro baseball in Iowa City for the Town City Cardinals, as well as coaching football, basketball and track at Lamoni High School. He taught Jr. High and elementary P.E. in Denver, CO for many years. He was an avid fly fisherman and sportsman. He will be remembered by many as a person who absolutely loved people and was the life of the party. He and his wife June traveled extensively through Europe, Egypt, Israel and 49 of the 50 states. In 1985, Bob and June returned to Independence, MO, where they lived until their passing. In 1926, he was baptized into the RLDS Church. He was ordained to the office of Priest in 1940 by Roy Cheville and was pleased to perform the sacrament of marriage to many of his family members. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife June Lorene Davies; and one brother, John B. Hedal. He is survived by his three daughters, April Lynnette Davies, Beverly Jo Bono (Mark), Vicki Lorene Bell (Kirk); two sons, David Richard Davies (Mary), Andrew Goldberg (Barbara); eight grandchildren, Heather Meador (Ken), Ethan Michael, Dawn Spencer and (Joe), Anita Harvey (Erik), Krista Murtha (Jack), Jonathan Davies (Alicia), Amy Miller (Brian), Matthew Mogg (Rebecca); six great grandchildren, Jordann, Chase and Tori Meador, Aubrey Spencer, Raymond Harvey, Avalee Davies; two sisters, Kay Wise, Barbara Fernelious; and two brothers, Richard B. Davies, Ralph Davies.
