Carroll Day Sr

Carroll H. “Dutch” Day, Sr. passed away February 27, 2014. A visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Tuesday March 4th at Speaks Suburban Chapel. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the chapel.
Dutch was born January 10, 1934 in Cameron, MO to Joseph Myron and Georgenna (Gillespie) Day as one of six children. He grew up in Independence where he graduated William Chrisman High School. Dutch proudly served in the United States Army from 1951-54 in the Aviation of Engineers stationed in France. He worked numerous jobs including Independence Police Department as one of their first canine handling police officers; security guard and later Maintenance Supervisor for Job Corp; as a repairman for Sears, as well as numerous other positions where he enjoyed working with his hands. He also participated in the American Legion. Dutch enjoyed being outdoors, bowling, playing pool, guitar and piano and was a talented Tenor singer. His family remembers him for his reverence for God, his great sense of humor, and his longing to tease those he loved. “There was nothing he couldn’t fix.” Dutch is loved and will be missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Rosella (Day) Hurshman; brother, Victor Day; stepdaughter, Marsha Ann Redmond; stepson, Lonney Garrett; ex-wife, Shirley Diane Bennett; and wife, Hazel Roland Day. Dutch is survived by son, Carroll H. Day, Jr. of Independence, MO; daughter Shirlela Jeanne King of Olathe, KS; daughter Deborah (Honeycutt) Emry; sons, Daniel and Dennis Honeycutt all of the Kansas City Area; thirteen grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brother, Keith Wayne Day of Olathe KS; brother, Joseph Dale Day of Independence, MO; and brother, James Dennis Day of Kansas City, MO.
