Leo H. Day, 87, formerly of Independence and Blue Springs, MO passed away Saturday, April 2, 2011 at John Knox Village Hospice House. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 3736 S. Lee’s Summit Road, Independence, MO 64055. Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055 where the rosary will be prayed at 5:30 p.m. Burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Leo was born August 30, 1923 in Pilot Grove, MO to George and Theresa (Kempf) Day, one of eight children. He was a graduate of Pilot Grove High School and a member of the championship basketball team. Mr. Day was president of the Lyons Club in Boonville, MO, a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus and served as Commander of the honor guard, and was the manager of the Raytown, MO Knights of Columbus Hall. Leo worked for Bendix Corporation as a Tool and Die Machinist for 33 years and was an evening manager for Western Auto for many years. Mr. Day is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Marilyn (Earickson) Day; six daughters Mary Kathleen James and husband Larry, Theresa Ann Tait, Mary Lyn Jones and husband Richard, Constance Jo Moore, Christa Lee Dean and husband Bryan, Patricia Eileen Rammelsburg and husband Eric; ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
