Lucile was born June 14, 1918 in Truesdale, IA as the second youngest child to Lessie and Lenna (Whitenack) Waggoner. Lucile began her life assisting her family in the joys and hardships in an Iowa farming community. She attended Truesdale High School and Buena Vista College where she lettered in basketball. Lucile received a certificate in teaching and pursued her love of teaching and helping young children find their way in life through education. She taught grade school in Oakland, Storm Lake, and Truesdale, IA as well as Independence, MO. As a teacher she met and fell in love with a young milk man, Gordon DeHart, who went to war in 1942. They were married October 14, 1945 and together raised two boys. She was very artistic and a great writer, painter, and sketch artist. She used this God given talent to assist in teaching her many students over the years. Lucile had an unyielding and unshakeable faith in the Lord and her church, First United Methodist. She dedicated many hours as a church librarian and Sunday School Teacher. Her faith has been passed on to many generations of family. She will be missed by many but her memory and good deeds will live on through eternity.
