On August 14, 2023 Marguerite Ann “Peggy” and Dennis Wayne “Denny” Whetstone walked thru the gates of heaven hand in hand. Marguerite was 82 and Dennis was 83 years old.
They leave behind their beloved children: Stephanie Kupper (Jeffrey), Brian Whetstone (Elizabeth) and Brett Whetstone (Susan); 8 grandchildren: Kale Whetstone, Collin Whetstone, Kienan Whetstone, Blake Whetstone, George Kupper, Brittany Whetstone, Theodore Kupper and Kilderry Kupper; and their siblings: George Riley III, John Riley, Martha Pouche and Cheryl Thompson.
Peggy was born to George and Marguerite Riley in Kansas City, Missouri on September 14, 1940. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School, and at the young age of 14 she met her soulmate, Denny. They were married on May 5th 1962 and spent the next 61 years building a life together. Peggy was a beautiful, well-respected woman. She went from being a cheerleader and the homecoming queen in high school to dedicating her entire life to caring for others. Peggy was the matriarch of her family and loved them fiercely. She knew how to handle any crisis with grace and was truly the pillar of strength for her loved ones. Peggy was the proud mother/grandmother of two Marines. She dedicated her time as a cub scout den mother when her boys were little and always put her family first. She enjoyed traveling, playing Pinochle, puzzles and entertaining. She helped to create beautiful memories for both her children and grandchildren every birthday, holiday and special occasion.
Denny was born to Mildred Whetstone in Kansas City, Missouri on December 28, 1939. He also graduated from St. Mary’s High School. Denny was always an incredible athlete. As a young man, he played football and baseball. Once he became a father, he volunteered his time coaching little league and guiding his sons through their sports as well. Denny was an avid hunter, more specifically quail and pheasant hunting. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and was a generous selfless provider for his family. He had an outstanding work ethic and was able to pass that trait along to his children. He spent over 35 years working for the gas company before his retirement. Denny was loyal, stoic and a source of strength amongst his loved ones.
Denny and Peggy’s kind, modest nature and powerful presence will be missed beyond measure.
