Charles Frank “Tiger, Denny,” Dennis 93, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family April 13, 2009 at the Groves Care Center in Independence, Mo.
"Tiger” was born May 31, 1915 in Marshall, Mo to Charles Fisher Dennis and Lillian Campbell Dennis. First he moved to Independence and opened a Studebaker Auto Dealership. However, he is best known forestablishing a Chevrolet dealership in the Olathe, Kansas area that he owned for many years. He retired from the car business in the early 1970’s, but continued to be active in the Kansas Motor Car Dealers Association. He was proud to have been honored as Time Magazine ”Dealer of the Year.” Tiger highly valued his civic involvement and his Shrine affiliation. His Masonic membership started 66 years ago with the Alpha Lodge 659, and he was Master of the Lodge in 1950. He was a member of the Ararat Motor Corp, the Sayyaras Car Unit for 14 years and a Director of the unit for 10 years. In 1981 he was invited into the Jesters Royal Order of the Court 54 where he continued until his death. The Jesters Royal Order will be providing their prestigious Rose Ceremony at the service because of his contributions to their group. Tiger was also very proud of the fact he had 57 years perfect attendance in the Olathe Rotary Club and that he was also awarded two Paul Harris Fellowships. Olathe owes much of their rapid growth and prosperity to the businessmen in that association. Hobbies of Hunting, Fishing, and Woodworking were his passion. Many will remember fondly the hunting and fishing trips with him throughout their lives. No one could have been a better partner.
Survivors include his wife, Marcelle Dennis, son Charles F. Dennis, daughter Ann Kvitle-Bi, and stepsons, John McComas and James McComas. He leaves 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 2009 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO. Burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 - 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Chapel.
