Dewey Leroy Corbett, a cherished soul who touched the lives of many, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2024, in Independence, Missouri. Born on May 23, 1936, in Mitchell, Virginia, Leroy lived a life filled with humility and love, embodying a quiet strength that inspired those around him.
Leroy embraced a fulfilling career as a driver for Belgar Cartage for an impressive 30 years, ultimately retiring as a proud member of the Teamsters in 1994. His journey from the roads to retirement was marked by dedication and a steadfast work ethic that his family and friends admired deeply. Leroy’s education culminated with his graduation from Smith Cotton High School, Class of 1954, and he carried the lessons of his youth with him throughout his life, embodying the values of integrity and respect.
In addition to his professional life, Leroy served his country honorably in the Army, a commitment that reflected his noble character and sense of duty. After returning home, he became an active member of his community, engaging in hobbies that brought him joy and camaraderie. He loved golfing with his buddies, forging friendships on the green that would last a lifetime. As a Freemason and a member of the Shriner-Ararat in Kansas City, Missouri, Leroy contributed to various charitable endeavors, always ready to lend a helping hand. His affiliation with the Greeters Club and Sandblasters Club further showcased his spirit of fellowship and community bonding.
Above all, Leroy was a devoted family man. His proudest accomplishments were the relationships he fostered with his sons and grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. With a gentle demeanor and a go-with-the-flow attitude, he instilled in them the importance of kindness and family values. He will certainly be remembered as a loving father and grandfather, who cherished each moment spent with his family, making memories that will last forever. Leroy was an exceptional husband and father and the love for his family and friends ran deep.
Leroy is now reunited with his beloved wife, Jean Corbett; parents, Harry Corbett and Lilly Corbett - Todd and stepdad, Willis Todd, who have preceded him in death. His legacy of love and commitment to family will continue to shine through his surviving sons, Brent Corbett, Kent (Patty) Corbett; and grandchildren, Clint, Trent, Dylan, Dawn and Kasey, who will carry his memory close to their hearts.
Services honoring the life of Dewey Leroy Corbett will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Raytown, Missouri, with a graveside service on September 16, 2024, starting at 12:00 PM. Friends and family are invited to celebrate his life and the profound impact he had on all who knew him. A Celebration of Life will be held September 28th from 1:00-4:00 pm at VFW, 9642 Old Hwy 40, Odessa, MO 64076, where guests are welcomed to join in honoring Leroy.
Leroy will be forever missed, but his spirit will live on in the stories shared, the laughter remembered, and the love he so generously gave.
