Gene Wesley Dewey, 71, of Blue Springs, Missouri passed away April 30, 2012 at his home. Born January 28, 1941 in St. Joseph, Missouri he was the son of Gene V. and OnaLea Etchison Dewey. On February 5, 1965, he was united in marriage to Mary Margaret Klote at the Christian Church in Edina, MO. They shared forty-seven wonderful years of marriage together. Surviving are his wife, Mary of Blue Springs, MO; three daughters, Lesa Kay Dewey of Blue Springs, MO, Lori Lea Jennings and her husband, Larry Jennings Jr. of Greenwood, MO and Lynette JoSusan Ledger and her husband, Joseph Ledger also of Blue Springs, MO; three grandchildren, Clint Austin Jennings, Bailey JoSusan Kidd and Jessica Elizabeth Ledger; one brother, Clelan “Corky” Dewey and his wife, Dianne Dewey of Savannah, MO; one sister, Meri Beth Jackson and husband, Robert “Pal” Jackson of St. Joseph, MO and several nieces and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, David O. Dewey. Gene was a graduate from Lafayette High School in Joseph, MO and attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC. He served his country in the Air National Guard as a Senior Master Sergeant in the fire department for 23 years. In 1978, Gene and his family moved to Blue Springs, MO. Gene was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for thirty years retiring December 31, 1991, as an area manager of construction. Gene was a conservationist; he had a love for nature and farming. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, antiquing and John Deere implements. He attended the Christian Church in Edina and Blue Springs. Gene especially loved and enjoyed his family and friends. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday, May 3, at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th Street Independence, MO 64055 with funeral services immediately following at 12:00 p.m. Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 4, at Park View Memorial Gardens, 2100 E. Shepard Ave. Kirksville, MO 63501.
