Ruth Constance Diehl, 91, Independence, MO passed away Monday, June 13, 2011 at Truman Lakewood Medical Center. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 16, 2011 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO 64055. Burial will be in Blue Springs Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday evening at the chapel. Donations may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society or to the Alzheimer’s Association. Ruth was born August 22, 1919 in Long Island, NY to Cecil Raymond and Theresa E. (Schmidt) Bailey. She spent her early life in New York graduating from John Adams High School in Richmond Hills, NY. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker who enjoyed shopping, flowers, gardening, puzzles, drawing, cleaning and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. She also worked as a nurse in the Kansas City area. She was married to Harry Diehl on December 26, 1935; he preceded her in death in July of 1990. Survivors include; a son, Harry Diehl and wife Bonnie of Blue Springs, MO; a daughter, Lynda Cook and husband Larry of Cleveland, TN; 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeff Diehl in 2010.
