Helen Digby, 96, died September 19 in Ashton Court Center in Liberty. She was born November 30, 1911 in Independence to Robert and Rosetta Clasby. She was the oldest of eight children. She was a nearly lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Independence. She was a homemaker who worked many years in yard goods at Montgomery Ward. She loved fabrics and was an excellent seamstress and in her later years sewed baby clothes for the Salvation Army. She also loved dancing, traveling, playing table games, and being with family.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Fred Digby. She is survived by one daughter, Judy Minor; son-in-law, Lee Minor; grandsons, Mike (wife Heather) and Bob Minor; great-grandchildren: Samantha, Robby, Lucy and Molly; a sister, Hazel Downing; and a brother, Lawrence Clasby, and his wife Pearl. She also leaves an extended family of nieces and nephews who call her “Aunt Honey.”
Visiation will be held from 9-10:00 AM Thursday, September 25 with funeral service at 10:00 AM at Carson-Speaks Chapel. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to Our Lady of Mercy Country Home, 2115 Maturana Drive, Liberty, MO 64068 where Helen lived the last seven years of her life.
