Fredrick Carl “Fred” Dimmel, 80, of Independence, MO, passed away, Monday, July 13, 2009 at the Villages of Jackson Creek. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 18, 2009 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church 17200 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO 64055. Burial with full military honors will be in Mound Grove Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Friday evening at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Donations may be made to the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or to Alzheimer’s Research Foundation. Fred was born June 29, 1929 in Independence, MO to Louie John and Margaret Marie (Maser) Dimmel. He was a lifelong resident of Independence, MO, graduating from William Chrisman High School in 1947. He then proudly served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. After the services he was employed at Central Surety. He completed his bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from Rockhurst College in 1966. He then began a distinguished career at Burd and Fletcher, where he worked as an accountant, controller and retired as Chief Financial Officer in 1996 after over 25 years with the company. He was a long time member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the Harry S. Truman Foundation and was a volunteer at Independence Regional Health Center and later Centerpoint Medical Center working over 4000 hours. He enjoyed motorcycles and flying and received his pilot’s license at a very young age. In later years enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He was married to Ruth Faye (Detmer) on March 2, 1951; she preceded him in death on June 14, 1996. Survivors include; a daughter, Janet Lee Bowman and her husband Ken of Blue Springs, MO; a son, Fred C. Dimmel, II and his wife Angela of Blue Springs, MO; 2 sisters, Margaret L. Fleschman of Prairie Village, KS and Katherine F. Hufstedler of Fremont, CA; 8 grandchildren, Jennifer Hill, Kristen Hockman, Lauren Bowman, Joshua Bowman, Fred C. Dimmel, III, Erica McGinley, Grant D. Dimmel and Paige Dimmel; 6 great grandchildren, Katelyn Hill, Brittany Hill, Jackson Hill, Kyra Hockman, Brynna Hockman and Solomon Dimmel. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, John Dimmel in 1985 and Charles in 2004.
