Virgil Irving Dobson, 91, of Independence, MO passed away Wednesday December 24, 2008 at the Golden Living Center of Independence. Services will be 10 am, Monday, Dec. 29, 2008 at Speaks Suburban Chapel; interment at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Sunday at Speaks. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Association or to the First Baptist Church of Independence. Virgil was born April 13, 1917 in Topeka, KS to Blair Lloyd and Mable Josephine (Johnston) Dobson. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Virgil was united in marriage to Dorothy Srader on May 13, 1939. He owned and operated Make-Nu Carpet Works and then Dobson and Sons Carpet Co. for 19 years before retirement. His customers included Bess and Harry Truman! He loved fishing in his spare time and was an avid Royals fan. Virgil is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Dorothy Dobson; children Lloyd Dobson and fiance’ Ge Ge Nedema, Donna Kendall and husband David, John Dobson and wife Linda; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister Sylvia Dobson. Mr. Dobson was preceded in death by four brothers, Lloyd, Winston, twins Marvin and Melvin; and a sister Irma.
