Don Eugene Waddell, 95, passed away on June 20, 2026, in Clinton, Missouri. He was born on January 5, 1931, in Independence, Missouri.

Don attended William Chrisman High School, where he met the love of his life, Dorothy. The two were married on New Year's Eve in 1950 and shared nearly 60 wonderful years together before Dorothy's passing. Don dedicated more than 35 years of service to the Independence Fire Department, retiring as a Fire Captain on Pumper 1. He was respected for his strong work ethic, leadership, and commitment to serving his community. He was also a Master Mason and took pride in his involvement with the fraternity.

Although he was known for being stern, strong-willed, and fair, Don was never far from a joke or playful teasing. Those who knew him best appreciated his sense of humor and the deep care he showed for family and friends. Don loved spending time outdoors, especially fishing at Lake Jacomo and Truman Lake. He enjoyed cooking and was proud to eat the fish he caught. He also found great satisfaction in gardening, raising both vegetables and flowers. Above all, Don adored his family. He will be remembered for his strength, devotion, and the many memories he created with those he loved.

Don’s passing is preceded by his parents, Forrest Waddell and Ruth Dyke; his stepfather, Gus Dyke; and his children, Vicky Hill and David Waddell. Don's legacy lives on through his son, Donnie Waddell (Mary), and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at Speaks Suburban Chapel on Monday, June 29th, 2026 from 9-10 am. A funeral service will begin at 10 am with a graveside service at Woodlawn Cemetery immediately following.
