Gerald E. “Jerry” Donahoe, 73, of Independence, MO peacefully passed away Friday, September 16, 2011 at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 10113 E. Lexington, Independence, MO 64053. Graveside services 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2011 in Ridge Park Cemetery, Marshall, MO. Jerry was born January 20, 1938 in Marshall, MO to Edward Patrick and Vera Lucille (Heckman) Donahoe. He endured Multiple Sclerosis for 18 years and worked valiantly to meet the challenges of that disability. He remained devoted to his Catholic faith throughout his life and was an active member of St. Ann’s. Jerry gave generously of his time, visiting elderly residents of Little Sisters of the Poor, serving as a chief of volunteer fire department in Blue Summit and after retirement from Armco Steel, he worked with the Fairmount Food Pantry assisting the needy in his community. His talents included building much of his furniture and cabinets, and creating stained glass lamps, windows and ornaments. Mr. Donahoe is survived by his three sons Stephen, Keith and Michael Donahoe; six granddaughters Amanda, Katie, Sarah, Alicia, Britney, Jessica; step-grandson Timothy; and by his sister Kay Donahoe.
