Donald Eugene "Donnie" Duerr
Donald Eugene "Donnie" Duerr, 70, of Independence, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 18, 2026.
Donnie was born on May 12, 1956, in Independence, Missouri, to Walter Duerr and Arlene Kinnaman. He graduated from William Chrisman High School, later earning a technical trade certification that led to a long and respected career as a copier technician. Following high school, Donnie proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. After many years of dedicated work, he retired, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, dependability, and skill.
Donnie had a passion for life and found joy in the simple things that brought family and friends together. He loved traveling to Las Vegas, and he enjoyed playing cards and making memories. A lifelong fan of rock 'n' roll, he cherished attending concerts with his family. Donnie could often be found tinkering with just about anything, always eager to fix, improve, or build. He enjoyed spending time outdoors camping and fishing, appreciated his firearms, and took pride in working with his hands.
Above all else, Donnie's greatest joy was his family. He loved being a father and grandfather, and nothing meant more to him than the time he shared with those he loved. His steady presence, sense of humor, and willingness to lend a helping hand will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Donnie is survived by his children, David Duerr, Andrew Duerr, and Stephanie Duerr (Johnathan Tatum); his beloved grandchildren, Wren Tatum and Johnathan Tatum, Jr.; his siblings, Lloyd Kinnaman, Sharon McVey and Karen (Kenneth) Dunaway; many extended family members and dear friends; and, last but certainly not least, his faithful cat, Bully.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Duerr; his mother, Arlene Chapman; and his stepfather, Robert Chapman.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Military Honors will be held at 5:00 p.m..
