Obituary

Dorothy Ann Carter, born Dorothy Ann Kearns on October 29, 1938, in Slater, Missouri, passed away on May 30, 2026, in Kansas City, Missouri, surrounded by her family. She lived a life characterized by unwavering devotion, remarkable faith, and an enduring commitment to family and community.

Dorothy's journey was marked by the simple yet profound joys of life. She met her beloved husband, Wayne Carter, on a memorable blind date, a meeting that blossomed into a lifelong partnership filled with love and shared memories. Her career as a teller at Sentinel Federal Savings and Loans and later at the Bank of Lee's Summit was a testament to her dedication and work ethic.

Known for her loving nature and amazing faith, Dorothy was a woman whose heart was always open. She treasured her family above all else, taking immense pride in raising her children. Dorothy’s greatest joy came from babysitting her grandchildren, exemplifying her boundless nurturing spirit and devotion. She also delighted in her hobbies—reading, antiquing, crafting, and shopping—activities that brought her great happiness and a chance to connect with those she cherished.

A heartfelt thanks to Anna Dureka, who for the past year and a half has made Dorothy's life safe, healthy, and fun. She was Dorothy's new best friend, confidant and shopping partner.

The deep roots of her family stretched wide, with survivors including her husband of 65 years Wayne Carter; her children, Laurie (Bryan) Brower and James (Anne) Carter and; cherished grandchildren, Abby (Nathan) Seider, Chase Carter, Maggie (Max) Enquist, Savannah (Jake) Stitt, Hayley (Billy) Ward, Aaron Brower; great grandchildren, Theo and Sulley Seider, Millie and Micah Enquist, JR Stitt, Will, Wyatt, Laekynn, and Wesley Ward; brother, Vic (Hilary) Kearns; sister, Bonnie Graham; a host of loving church friends and an extended family along with many friends who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Bertha Kearns, and her brother-in-law, Richard Graham. The family extends deepest appreciation to the staff, nurses and doctors at Kansas City Hospice House.

Dorothy’s passing leaves a profound void, as she was loved and will be deeply missed. Her legacy is one of family, faith, and kindness—the threads that wove the fabric of her life. Those who knew her remember not just a mother, wife, and friend, but a pillar of strength and a source of love.
