Douglas Henry Delsemme, 82, passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2025.
A mountain man, art enthusiast (with a special appreciation for David Wright), history buff, lover of literature, and devoted Bob Dylan fan, Doug was known for his sharp humor, legal acumen, and escapist mentality.
Doug’s audacious spirit started on Long Island in his hometown of Lynbrook, New York. He dreamt of a new life on new terrain. Kansas was calling.
Doug studied history at Baker University and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He received his law degree from The University of Kansas, which launched him into a devoted career as VP and General Counsel for Hodgdon Powder Company, Inc.
Doug shared wilderness journeys, cultural commentary, Bob Seger concerts, and endless laughs with his two children, Carrie and Jeff. He explored the world on a motorcycle seat or horseback (although Doug often preferred mule-back) and visited an enviable list of destinations.
Doug will continue his adventures and storytelling with his son Jeffery Alexis Delsemme (1969-2013) and granddaughter Dorothy Lenz Delsemme (2001). He also joins his mother Edna Katherine Delsemme and father Henry Alexis Delsemme.
Those left behind cherishing Doug’s tales are his daughter Carrie Miller and her husband John; granddaughter Ava Lenz Delsemme; and daughter-in-law Deborah Dorothy Delsemme. He also leaves behind a community of artists and adventurers that will keep the memories of a beloved historian, storyteller, and friend alive.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Contemporary Longrifle Foundation (CLF) in which Doug was a longtime board member.
