Hazel Marie Downing, 87, Independence, MO went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 10, 2010.
A celebration of Hazel’s life will be 10:00 AM Monday, March 15, 2010 at Carson-Speaks Chapel; 1501 W. Lexington Ave. Independence, MO. Burial will follow at Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
Hazel was born August 15, 1922 in Independence, MO the daughter of Robert and Rosetta Clasby. She was a 1940 graduate of William Chrisman High School. Hazel was a member of New Salem Baptist Church where she enjoyed being a Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed writing poetry, quilting, crocheting, she especially loved going to church and spending time with her family.
Hazel was preceded in death by her husband Raymond “Koss” Downing in 1986; two infant children, three sisters; three brothers; and her parents.
Survivors include her daughter, Kossine Middleton and her husband Rick; son, Raymond Downing and his wife Ruth; ten grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren and her brother, Lawrence Clasby.
