Nathan Thomas Dudley, late of Independence, Missouri, passed to his eternal rest Monday, the 16th day of April, anno Domini, 2012. Nathan was the fourth child, the third son, of John Lee Roy and Esther Carol (Keller) Dudley. He was born in the family home on the 24th day of February, a Monday, making him “…a Monday’s child is fair of face, …” anno Domini 1941.
Nathan was a Boy Scout in local Troop 240, worked as a clerk/soda jerk for P.K. Glenn and Company and a product of the Harrisonville Public School system. He matriculated to Central Missouri State College graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master of Arts Degree. He was employed by the Independence Public School System for 33 years, retiring in 1999. He thence became a man of leisure.
Nathan was a communicant of Trinity Episcopal Church, Independence, MO for thirty-five plus years. He served on the Vestry for over seventeen years. At different times he served as Senior Warden, Junior Warden, Clerk of the Vestry, and Vestryman. Nathan was a Chalice Bearer for Trinity as well as a Licensed Lay Reader and Lay Eucharistic Minister for the Diocese of West Missouri. At the time of his demise he was a communicant of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Kansas City, Missouri.
Mr. Dudley was preceded in death by his parents and older brother John Leroy Dudley of Sun City, CA. He is survived by his sister, Dorothy I. Francis of Independence, MO; two brothers, James R. Dudley of Bermuda Dunes, CA and Joseph E. Dudley of Shawnee, KS. He is also survived by his wife, Margaret Ruth Silsby Grice-Dudley. He is further survived by his two daughters, Jennifer A.E. and husband Claude Leclercq of Houston, TX, their three children, Julia, Chloe, and Nicolas, and Kathleen S.L. Dudley of St. Louis, MO and her daughter Nyssia. Further survivors include Margaret’s son and wife, Jonathan and Amber Grice and their children Will and Griffin of Independence, MO, daughter and husband Carrie and Ryan Wood and their children Emerson and Easton of Blue Springs, MO.
A memorial service is scheduled at Trinity Episcopal Church on Friday, April 20 at 1:00 p.m. A reception will follow at Ophelia’s restaurant on the square in Independence, MO. Inurnment will be at Oakland Cemetery, Harrisonville, Missouri in the family plot.
