Charles E. Dumsky, 78, of Sugar Creek, MO passed away Sunday, February 6, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 10, 2011 at St. Cyril’s Catholic Church, 11231 Chicago, Sugar Creek, MO 64054. Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052 where the rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Catholic Community Hospice, 9740 W. 87th St., Overland Park, KS 66212 or to the church. Charley was born December 13, 1932 at the home of his parents, Joseph and Anna (Berislavich) Dumsky. He attended Sugar Creek Grade School, Northeast High School and graduated with a degree in business from Rockhurst College in 1954. The following two years were spent in the U.S. Army. Mr. Dumsky retired from Ford Motor Co. after 32 years of faithful service in 1988. He was devoted to his family, his church and his community, serving on the Planning and Zoning Committee, Sugar Creek Business and Civic Club, Junior Achievement Advisor, Mid-America Regional Council, Missouri Municipal League, Trustee for the Little Blue Sewer District and was a Charter Member of the Friends of Sugar Creek. He was a Commissioner and President of the Jackson County Election Board, and served 12 years as an Alderman and six years as Mayor of Sugar Creek. Charley was a devoted member of St. Cyril’s Catholic Church his entire life and for many years served as council president. He was an usher and lector for more than 50 years. Mr. Dumsky was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Charley is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Margaret “Peggy” (Juricak) Dumsky; children Joe Dumsky, Ann Taylor (Rick), Sarah Vickers (Larry), Stephen Dumsky (Rocio); seven grandchildren Margot Dumsky, Ross and Logan Taylor, Trey and Tate Vickers, Isabel and Marco Dumsky; and sister Joanne Snow (Damian).
