Kenneth Dyer

August 8, 1934 — July 3, 2008

Kenneth W. “Kenny” Dyer, 73, of Independence, MO, passed away, Thursday, July 3, 2008 at Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, MO surrounded by his family. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Buckner Hill Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday evening at the chapel. Donations may be made to the East Independence Community of Christ Church. Kenny was born August 8, 1934 near Buckner, MO to Lee and Minnie Reese Dyer. He graduated from Halls Memorial High School in Buckner, MO in 1952. He earned varsity letters in football, basketball and track and later attended CMSU. He was married to Mary Chappelow at the Liberty Street RLDS congregation on April 24, 1955 and has enjoyed 53 years of marriage. He was a dedicated and loving husband. He served in the U.S. Army reserves. He retired from the former AGCO combine manufacturing plant in Independence with over 38 years of service primarily as a mechanic. He loved to tinker with things to see how they worked. He enjoyed participating and watching sports, especially baseball and was an avid MU, Royals and KC Chiefs fan who enjoyed watching with family and friends and shared that love of sports with his family. He was also a dedicated and loving father and grandfather. He once said, “Without family, there is no meaning to life”. He valued education and was proud of his three kids who all graduated with college degrees in accounting, dental hygiene and computer science. Two grandchildren are currently attending college. He loved his grandchildren very much and his calendar was filled with attending their many activities including church, school, soccer, volleyball, basketball and baseball. He was always there for his grandchildren. He became a baptized member of the East Independence Community of Christ congregation in September 2000 and was ordained to the office of Deacon in the Aaronic Priesthood. He never knew a stranger and this suited him well as a Deacon as he would welcome guests as they entered thru the church doors and would make them feel as though they were at home. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Donald. He is survived by his loving wife Mary of the home; a son, Grant and his wife Debbie of Independence, MO; 2 daughters, Donna Dyer of Independence, MO and Rhonda Losch and her husband Andrew of Independence, MO; 6 grandchildren, Amie Dyer, Angie Dyer, Zach Dyer, Michael Losch, Rachel Losch and Kevin Losch
