Mary A. Dyer, 74, of Independence, MO passed away, December 1, 2008 at Rosewood Health Center in Independence, MO. The family will greet friends from 6-8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 5, 2008 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. The service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the chapel, with burial to follow at Buckner Hill Cemetery. Donations may be made to the East Independence Community of Christ Church. Mary was born May 2, 1934 near Napoleon, MO to Edwin and Eva Marsh Chappelow. She graduated with academic honors from William Chrisman High School in 1951. She enjoyed singing and listening to different music styles. She married Kenny Dyer at the Liberty Street RLDS congregation on April 24, 1955 and had enjoyed 53 years of marriage. Mary was a dedicated and loving wife. She retired from Burns and McDonnell Engineering after 25 years of service working primarily as an executive secretary and human resources assistant.
She was a dedicated mother and grandmother. She enjoyed her grandchildren very much and her calendar was filled with attending their many activities including church, school, soccer, volleyball, basketball and baseball. Although she was unable to attend college she valued education. She was proud of her three kids who all graduated college with degrees in accounting, dental hygiene and computer science. Two grandchildren are currently attending college.
Mary was a member of the East Independence Community of Christ Congregation. She was a very spiritual and faithful person. She taught her kids and grandkids to know God and to walk and talk with Him. She was ordained to the office of Deacon in the Aaronic Priesthood.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother Edwin; and her loving husband, Kenny. She is survived by one son, Grant and wife Debbie of Independence, MO; two daughters, Donna Dyer of Independence, MO and Rhonda Losch and husband Andrew of Independence, MO; six grandchildren, Amie Dyer, Angie Dyer, Zach Dyer, Michael Losch, Rachel Losch and Kevin Losch; one sister, Esther Friend of Independence, MO; and one brother, Samuel Chappelow and wife Marilyn of Independence, MO.
