Edward John Briley was born January 14, 1944, at Faith Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Edward M. and Ruth Briley. He passed away on August 21, 2026.
He graduated from Maplewood-Richmond Heights Senior High School in June of 1961. He was very interested in a career in broadcasting and got his first full-time radio job at what was then WCNT in Centralia, Illinois, in April of 1962. He met Carolyn Sue Kopp while working at what was then KNBI in Norton, Kansas, and they were married on January 15, 1966, in Norton.
He became very interested in the model railroading hobby in 1968 and was active in that hobby for many, many years. He was also interested in Amateur (sometimes called “Ham”) radio and obtained his Amateur Extra Class license in 2010. He was active in the Raytown (MO) Amateur Radio Club for several years and served a couple of terms as secretary. Ed also served three terms on the board of directors of the Association of Saint’s Church Radio Amateurs.
He was an elder at Mount Zion Restoration Branch in Independence and enjoyed participating in activities there.
He and Carolyn had two children, Tracey Lynn Briley McQuinn of Blue Springs, Missouri, and Mark Edward Briley (wife Laura Briley) of Grain Valley, Missouri. His grandchildren are Meri Kindred of Chicago, Illinois; Tim Benedict of Grain Valley, Missouri; and Jacob Edward Briley of Grain Valley, Missouri.
