John D. Edwards

John D. Edwards, 80, of Independence, MO passed away Thursday, September 3, 2015. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00pm Tuesday, September 8th at East Independence Church of Christ; 2020 S 291 Hwy, Independence, MO. A memorial service will be held 11:00am, Wednesday, September 9th at the church.
John was born December 11, 1934 as one of five boys to Luther O. and Thelma (Salsman) Edwards. He graduated from Hughesville, MO High School before enlisting in the National Guard. He married his beloved Jo Ann (Ingram) on March 26, 1961 and together they raised three sons. He was a devoted husband and dedicated father. He worked for Armco Steel (formerly Sheffield; presently JST) for over 40 years as a machinist until his retirement in 2001. He also enjoyed reading, and traveling. John was especially thankful and proud of his family. They remember him as friendly, social, easy going, a faithful Christian, and a family man.
He will be missed by his wife, Jo Ann Edwards of the home; sons, John R. Edwards (Susan); Donald Edwards (Peggy); and Ronald Edward all of Independence, MO; six grandchildren, Jacob, Whitney, Emily, Rachel, Angel, and Brock; sister-in-law, Ann Edwards of Enterprise, AL; and Juanita Edwards of Warrensburg, MO and numerous other friends and family that love him. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Luther C., William “Ivan”, Alfred Roy, and James Dale Edwards. The family encourages contributions to the church in his memory.
