Maria H. Eklund, 80, of Independence, passed away at her home, July 2, 2009 at 10:45PM. She was preceded in death by husband, Raymond R. Eklund, Sr., November 23, 1995. Mother of Raymond R. Eklund, Jr. of Littleton, CO, George R. Eklund, Sr. of Independence, MO and Maria E. Eklund of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Gina M. Farish, Brooklyn, NY, Courtney Eklund, Springfield, MO, Karen Eklund, Lee’s Summit, MO, Lisa Norwat, Blue Springs, MO, George R. Eklund, Jr., Grove, Oklahoma and two great grandchildren, Ashla Eklund and Gavin Norwat. Born Maria Hubertina Van Loo, February 9, 1929 in Wiljre, Limburg, Netherlands and a war bride to MSgt. Raymond R. Eklund, Sr. of Somers, Montana April 7, 1948 in Germany. Maria, also known as Berthie, was preceded in death by her brothers Hubert, Harry and Peter Van Loo of the Netherlands and parents Johannes Christiaan Hubertus Van Loo and Maria Elizabeth Smeets Van Loo of Wiljre, Netherlands. Contributions may be made in Maria’s name to the American Cancer Society or Kansas City Hospice.
