James Allen Elkins, 73, Independence, MO passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2011.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, January 15, 2011 at Sycamore Hills Baptist Church; 15200 E. 39th St., Independence, MO. Burial will follow at Hickory Point Cemetery, near Green Ridge, MO. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Sycamore Hills Baptist Church Building Fund.
James was born March 5, 1937 near Sedalia, MO the son of Willie Forrest and Ethel May (Maltsbarger) Elkins. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. James was retired from Pipe fitters Local Union #533 in 1998. He was a member of Sycamore Hills Baptist Church where he had taught Sunday school. James enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing sports with his family.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Howard and Willie Forrest Elkins, Jr.; sisters, Marjorie Gearhart, Virginia Dickerson, and Wanda Lee Elkins.
Survivors include his loving wife Rosalie Elkins of the home; daughter, Terri Elkins; son, Larry Elkins and his wife Becky all of Independence; grandchildren, Jennifer Conrad and her husband Chris, Katie Elkins; sisters, Zelma Meyer of Sedalia, Ruth Kindle of Richardson, TX and Gloria Bower of Sedalia, and brother, Robert L. Elkins of Raytown.
