Robert Eugene Ellis, age 88, passed away October 8, 2008, in San Antonio, Texas. Services will be at 10:00 am, Tuesday, October 14, at St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church, 8941 James A. Reed Road, Raytown MO. Visitation will be 6-8:00 pm on Monday, October 13, at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington, Independence, MO, with Rosary at 7:00 pm. Interment will be at Mount Olivet in Raytown Missouri. Mr. Ellis was born August 24, 1920, in Preston, Kansas, to Leonard and Mae Ellis. In 1936, he enlisted in the Missouri National Guard 110th Engineers Regiment. During WWII, he participated in the Battle for Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands and then Iwo Jima. Robert met and married the love of his life, Lorraine. A born salesman, Robert traveled the Midwest selling auto parts. “Kansas City Bob” was very proud of his 59 years of sobriety with AA in Missouri, San Antonio and St. Petersburg. Robert was also an avid gardener and he loved to share his bounty. He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved wife, Lorraine Ellis. Robert is survived by his sons, Leonard Ellis and wife, Phyllis of Texas, David Ellis and wife, Agnes of Florida; grandchildren, Scott Ellis, Robert Ellis and wife, Amy, Carolyn Spain and husband, Travis, Amanda and Curtis Evans; great-grandchildren, Donald, Max, Allison and Ava; and sister, Lois Post.
