Eugene C. “Gene” Romine, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away February 21, 2025 at John Knox Care Center in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. He was 95 years of age.
Eugene Romine was born Aug. 20th, 1929, to Clair and Mable Romine in Harveryville, KS. He had 4 siblings, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. He was married to Emogene Romine on Aug. 19th, 1950, and from their union came three children. Gene enlisted in the Navy and was an electrician for the Seabees. He served in the United States Navy for four years during the Korean War. After his time with the service, he went on to work for Uniysys as an IT Field Manager, he retired after 34 years of service. They lived in Independence MO for 58 years. They were married for 64 years. She preceded him in death on June 27th, 2014. Gene, Grandpa, Grampie, was a devoted Father and grandfather. He was selfless and loving and always did what he thought was best for his family. He would have done anything for anyone. He maintained a positive outlook and continued to work hard at getting stronger even as his health failed. Gene loved watching the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals play while cheering them on. He spent the last year of his life in an apartment at Brookdale Senior Living in Kansas City, MO. While there, he made dear friends that he enjoyed eating meals and having good conversations with. He will be missed by his family and friends. We know he is at Home and at Peace with his Heavenly Father and family, which in turn gives us comfort. He will live on in our hearts and our actions. If we would all treat not just friends but also strangers with the same kindness as he did, the world would be an infinitely better place.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Emogene "Emma" Romine, his daughter Linda Kay Romine, aged 1 year, his son James Dale "Jim" Romine, aged 34, and his great-grandson Xavier, aged 22 months.
His legacy lives on through his sister, Etta Stratton, of Dallas, Texas, 100 years of age; his daughter, Brenda Hydeman of Blue Springs, MO. He had 4 grandchildren; his granddaughter's Cindy Gibson of Liberty, MO and Vicki Romine of Blue Springs, MO; his twin Grandson's Matthew Hydeman of Raytown, MO and Andrew Hydeman of Kansas City, MO, and 3 great grandchildren, Alexandria Romine, Kaitlyn Romine and Landon Rojas.
Visitation is at Speaks Subarban Chapel in Independence, MO on Fri. Feb. 28th at 9 am. Memorial Service to follow at 10 am.
Services will be available on livestream.
An inurnment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery in Topeka, KS at 2 pm in the afternoon.
