Jack A. Evans, 84, of Independence, MO, formerly of Raytown, MO, passed away, Friday, March 27, 2009 at the Kansas City Hospice House. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills East Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, at the chapel. Donations may be made to the Kansas City Hospice House. Jack was born December 31, 1924 to Claude A. and Callie A. (Thomas) Evans. Jack was a retired US Postal letter carrier as well as a retired part-time employee of Sears with more than 30 years service. He was a more than 20-year member of the Country Meadows Baptist Church and prior member of First Baptist Church of Raytown for more than 30 years. He proudly served in the US Army Air Corp during WWII in the Pacific theatre. Jack was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Vera M. Evans of the home; 2 sons, Phillip A. Evans and his wife Vicki and Jerry W. Evans and his wife Karin; his daughter, Patsy M. Brooks and her husband Garold; 10 grandchildren, Angie, Alina, Darcy, Katheryn, Nicki, Andrew, Daniel, Ricky, Tiffany and Robbie and 7 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a niece, Shirley Hughes and her husband Norman and a nephew, Russell Fowler and wife Wanda and many other nieces, nephews grand nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, George and Houston and a sister, Eunice Fowler. Jack was a loving, gentle and caring spirit who had a ready smile for all who knew or met him. He will be sadly missed.
