Arlene Laverne Fann, 78, Independence , Mo. , passed away peacefully Sept. 25, 2009, surrounded by her loving family and friends. Arlene was born in Kansas City, MO, May 21, 1931 to Wayne and Ruby Fitzwater Eckard. She graduated from Northeast High School in 1948. She married William Fann Aug. 8, 1948 and they resided in Independence, MO her entire life. She was a stay-at-home mom until her children were teens and then worked for the Independence Sanitarium and Hospital as an EKG technician for seven years. She then attended the Jenny Lund School of Practical Nursing and graduated in 1974. She worked for Drs Kendall, Woodward, and Morris for six years. She was an active member of the Community of Christ and attended the East Alton Congregation. She enjoyed helping with various youth programs and participated in the choir and bell choir. Her faith and family were of utmost importance to her. She loved her grandchildren, camping, crafts, shopping for a bargain and visiting. She is survived by her beloved husband William (Bill) Fann of 61 years; a daughter, Cheryl Jeschke and husband Jerry, Robinson , KS; a son, Kenneth and wife Linda, Blue Springs, MO; Six grandchildren, Craig, Scott, Erin and Kyle Jeschke, Heather Varner and Stephanie Watson; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Thelma Tkach and brother, Stanley Eckard and wife, Anita, both of Lee’s Summit, MO; brother-in-law, Charles Fann and wife, Beverly, Independence, MO; sister-in-law, Irene Mackey, Bolivar, MO and nieces and nephews. Family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be at Mt. Washington Cemetery. Donations may be made in her name to Outreach International.
