John Farquhar

John Farquhar, 89, Independence, MO passed away Saturday, January 30, 2010 surrounded by his family.

A Celebration of John’s life will be 2:30 PM Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St. Independence, MO. Burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:30 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

John was born August 6, 1920 in Cambuslang, Scotland, the son of George and Margaret (Young) Farquhar. He was trained in Scotland as a Master Craftsman Joiner. He moved to Independence with his family in 1956 from Scotland, becoming a citizen in 1973. John owned and operated John Farquhar Construction and later First General Services of Kansas City. He attended the First Presbyterian Church of Independence and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. John enjoyed playing golf and loved spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife Janet “Jenny” Farquhar in 1997; sister, Helen “Nellie” Farquhar Stewart and his parents.

Survivors include his sons; George Farquhar and his wife Joy of Damascus, OR; and Neil Farquhar and his wife Diana of Blue Springs; daughter, Donna Crowder and her husband David of Independence; six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
