Dr. Donald G. Farrior, 71, of Lee’s Summit, MO, passed away, Saturday morning, August 29, 2009, at his home.
Private graveside services will be on Wednesday, September 2, 2009, at Longview Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, August 31, 2009, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Donations may be made to the Donald and Janet Farrior Scholarship Fund at Raymore Christian Church, 500 Peace Dr., Raymore, MO 64083.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, September 12, 2009, at Raymore Christian Church.
Dr. Farrior was born February 19, 1938, in Richlands, NC, to William Escal and Sarah Lee (Taylor) Farrior. He graduated high school from Richlands High School and graduated from Earlham College in Richmond, IN. He has a Masters of Divinity degree from Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, IN. In 1976, he earned his doctor’s degree in Culture and Personality, also from Christian Theological Seminary. He has been a Disciples of Christ pastor for almost 50 years and has served as senior pastor at churches in North Carolina, Indiana, Missouri, Florida, and Arizona. Dr. Farrior retired as full time pastor in 2000, and has served as interim pastor since.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Janet of the home; a daughter, Melissa Gish and husband Tim of Lee’s Summit; 2 grandchildren, Brittney Swank of Raytown and Halsey Young of Kansas City, MO; 2 great grandchildren, Emme Grace Swank and Ellie Claire Swank; 3 brothers, William Farrior, Robert L. Farrior both of Richlands, NC and Phillip Farrior of Shreveport, LA; a sister, Frances Banks of Trenton, NC.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, 2 brothers, a son, Christopher and daughter, Cindy.
