Florence (Johosky) Guiheen, 87 passed away, Friday, May 2, 2025 at her residence in Kansas City, MO. Florence was born in Bangor, Maine August 17, 1937 to Bernard Kershaw and Anna Richards. Florence, along with her brother, Charles (Charlie) enjoyed dancing, roller skating, picking wild berries and spending time near the water of the Penobscot River and the Atlantic Ocean. Florence sought out becoming a Catholic while young and her faith was a constant driving force in her life. While in nursing school in Boston she met and fell in love with Coast Guardsman Joseph Johosky of Leavenworth, Kansas. They married in March of 1957 becoming parents over the years to 6 children, Christine (Leland) Lanford, Edward (Melissa) Johosky, Michael Johosky, Catherine (Robert) Solomon, Cynthia (Kevin) Steck and Stephanie (Clifton) Aldridge. After Joseph’s passing in 1971 she continued the journey of raising her children alone, guided by her love and devotion to God.
Florence met Timothy Guiheen and they married in April of 1977. Their love endured more than 40 years until his passing in 2022.
Florence obtained her nursing degree from Penn Valley Community College in 1976. She began her nursing career as a pediatric nurse at St Joseph’s Hospital in Kansas City. Later when she and Tim relocated to Florida she worked at New Smyrna Hospital and finished her career at Volusia County Health Department.
Although she spent most of her adult life in the midwest she never lost her unique Maine accent. Florence enjoyed singing, dancing, music, reading, crossword puzzles and most of all, spending time with family. Florence also loved to travel. Her favorite destinations included the mountains and the oceans, but her visits to Timothy’s beloved homeland, Ireland, were her greatest adventures.
She leaves behind her 6 children, their spouses, 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren plus twins on the way. Her enduring legacy is her love of family, her faith, her strength and her kindness.
The family would like to thank the staff at St Anthony’s Senior Assisted Living and Catholic Community Health and Hospice for the love and care given to Florence.
