Floyd Garrett, Jr. 81 of Independence, MO passed away Saturday evening, March 7, 2026, at his residence. Cremation is planned and no public services are planned at this time.
Floyd was born May 29, 1944 in Camden, MO to Floyd and Hazel (Breedlove) Garrett was a longtime Independence residence.
Floyd worked for GM in the Leeds Plant for several years until the closing of that plant when he relocated with GM to Oklahoma City where he worked before returning to Kansas City and worked until his retirement in 1993.
Floyd was well known to classic car and hot rod enthusiasts and was a master fabricator and known as “Captain Chrome”. He was an innovator and often made his own tools. Floyd was a friend to everyone and known as a man of his word.
He is survived by; his wife Connie Garrett of the home; 3 sons, Martin Garrett of Kansas City, MO, Christopher Schutte and wife Kellie of Orrick, MO and Jason Garrett and wife Stacy of Kearney, MO; a sister, Shirley Mawhiney of Independence, MO; 4 brothers, Kenneth Garrett on Independence, MO, Lewis Garrett of Kansas City, MO, Ronnie Garrett of Tulsa, OK and Gary Garrett of Independence, MO; 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
