Forrest Gene Harrison
October 5, 1938 – June 4, 2025
Lifelong resident of Independence, Missouri
With heartfelt sadness, we announce the passing of Forrest Gene Harrison, who left this world peacefully on June 4, 2025, at the age of 86. Born October 5, 1938, in Tuscumbia, Missouri, Forrest lived a full and vibrant life rooted in hard work, devotion to family, and strength. He proudly called Independence, Missouri home for most of his life.
Forrest was a devoted husband to Betty Harrison, his beloved wife of 69 years. Their love was steadfast and strong — filled with laughter, loyalty, and lifelong partnership. Forrest cared for Betty and his family his love showed he always had a smiling face.
A man of many talents, Forrest worked in construction before dedicating many years as a maintenance worker with the United States Postal Service. He took pride in everything he did and earned the respect of all who worked alongside him.
Forrest was a man of deep character and simple pleasures. He found joy in carpentry, hunting, fishing, road trips, and trying his luck at the casino. He also loved country music; especially Maybelline by Chuck Berry, which was often playing in the background as he worked or relaxed with his family. Whether fixing something around the house or sneaking off for a quick trip, Forrest always had a project — and a story — going.
He was preceded in death by his children, Julie Nails of Independence, Forrest Gene Harrison Jr., and Donna K. Harrison; his mother, Ora Mae Harrison/Waddell; and his brother, Raymond and Barbara Harrison, whose memories he held close to his heart.
He is survived by his daughter, Robin and her husband, Bob Jones; his sons, Ricky and Elissa Harrison, and Michael and Kimberly Harrison. Forrest’s legacy continues through 14 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom carry his love forward.
A public visitation will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Speaks Funeral Home at 18020 E 39th Street, Independence, Missouri 64055, beginning at 1:00 p.m., with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. All who knew Forrest — family, friends, neighbors — are welcome to join in celebrating a remarkable life well lived.
Forrest will be remembered for his strength, his humor, and most of all, his love. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in every nail driven, every fish caught, and every family story shared around the table.
