Frances JoAnn Curtin, 82, 9/1/2025

JoAnn was born on March 5, 1943, in St. Joseph, Missouri, the daughter of John J. Curtin JR and Lillian (Dodge) Curtin. She graduated from St. Pius High School in the class of 1961 and went on to college at St. Louis University graduating with a BS in Speech Pathology and Audiology in 1966. She then went on to get a Masters at Temple in Philadelphia.

JoAnn started her occupation as a Speech Therapist in rural Missouri. After working in her home state, she advanced to become a Department of Defense Dependent Schools (DODDS) employee working as a Speech Therapist on military bases all over the world for over 40 years. This line of work and her penchant for travel were a marriage made in heaven as JoAnn was enthralled to immerse herself in the different cultures and experience their geography, food and customs.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. JoAnn had many friends throughout the world who she connected with through the church. She also loved visiting quilt shops and art shows. One of her favorite countries was Japan. She had lived there for many years and still returned to visit. Much of the art she collected reflects this oriental influence.

JoAnn became known as JoJo Dancer as she surprised the entire family with her dance moves at the wedding of one of her nephews. From that time forward, she was known to hit the floor and bust a move or two to the delight of all. Her favorite holidays were Halloween and Christmas. She was known for her robust selection of haunted décor and her special goodies at Halloween.

JoAnn is survived by her sister Mary Lynn Curtin, brother Dennis Curtin, brother-in-law Fred Brooker and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lillian Curtin, and her sister Kathy Brooker.

In Lieu of flowers, JoAnn requested for those who desired to make contributions to Mimi’s Pantry in Riverside, Missouri.
