William Franklin, 83, of Independence, MO passed away Wednesday, September 3 at Centerpoint Medical Center. A visitation will be from 9-10:00 AM Saturday, September 6 at Speaks Suburban Chapel with services beginning at 10:00 AM. Graveside services will be at 12:00 Noon at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family suggests contributions be made to Kansas City Grace Church of the Nazarene.
William was born April 16, 1925 in Colorado City, TX to William and Mollie Franklin. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II where he received a purple heart. Upon his return, he began working for Kansas City Terminal Railroad as a welder. He was employed with them for 37 years before his retirement in 1987.
William is survived by his sisters: Billye Green and Rossali Carsrude; children: Dennis Franklin, Janet Beaty, and Barbara Zumwalt; ten grandchildren: Rhonda, Tina, Michael, Amanda, Jennifer, William, Blake, Kenneth, Ben and Cassie; and six great-grandchildren: Tyler, Kyli, Rhiannon, Patience, Katelynn, and Lisa. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret S. Franklin, son, Russell Franklin, and daughter, Monica Long.
