Gale Fulghum, 84, of Independence, MO, passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2007 at his home. Visitation will be 5-7:00 p.m. Friday, October 5, 2007 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Cremation with private burial in Salem Cemetery. Contributions to St. Luke’s Hospice. Gale was born February 19, 1923 in Kansas City, MO. He proudly served as a Naval Officer during WWII in the Southwest Pacific. Mr. Fulghum was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Independence. Gale graduated from William Chrisman High School and the University of Missouri at Rolla (with honors) in Metallurgical Engineering. He was active in sports, was a member of a championship University of Oklahoma football team, honorable mention All American, played in the first MO-Kan football game, and had been invited to the St. Louis Browns tryout camp. In his professional career, he was in production management for various corporations such as Westinghouse and International Systems Controls. Gale enjoyed working in the yard and watching his grandsons grow into fine young men! Mr. Fulghum is survived by his wife, Doris (Vaughan) Fulghum of the home; son Gary Fulghum and wife Terri; grandsons Clay and Jordan.
